Marilyn was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She moved to Australia to further her education and attended Bond University where she graduated with her Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (PGrad Dip in Legal Prac). She was admitted into the Supreme Court of Queensland as a qualified Solicitor and Legal Practitioner in 2006. She later returned to Bond University to pursue her Masters in Law (LLM) and graduated specialising in Intellectual Property, Information Technology and E-Commerce.
Marilyn speaks English, Malay (Bahasa Melayu), Hokkien and Cantonese. She practised in an Intellectual Property firm in Brisbane for a number of years where she specialised mainly in Trade Marks.
